Touring Portugal The Land Rover Adventure Association of Ontario was started by several keen Land Rover owners in the Toronto area, with the shared enthusiasm of off-roading and adventure traveling. Various off-road outings are scheduled during the year, which range from very difficult to easy and sometimes a surprise! Typically the outings are twice a month usually a day trip or over night with the co-ordination of the club members. In addition, there are more organized events such as participating with other clubs, expeditions into Northern Ontario and the annual fall picnic.

The membership continues to grow and includes owners of just about every Land Rover model including; the Series I, II, III,101 Forward Control,Range Rover,Defender,Discovery Series I, II, LR3,the Freelander and the LR2.

Safari tourists launch legal action after lion incident

A group of tourists, including two London couples, has launched legal action against a South African safari park after being trapped by a pride of lions.

The group was surrounded by the lions for around 40 minutes after their Land Rover overturned when their guide tried to escape the pride.

One of them was left seriously injured and the rest were bruised and traumatised by the experience at the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, near Cape Town, in March 2007.

David and Susan Shearman, of Highbury, and Richard and Sandy Cornish, of Wimbledon, are among the four couples suing for £582,000 for injuries and stress.

REMEMBER the Tomb Raider movie.

Remember the specially modified Land Rover Defender that action gal Lara Croft drove?

Well, we got to drive the car on a visit to Land Rover’s playground at Eastnor Castle in the north of England.

Three cars were put together for the 2001 movie starring Angelina Jolie

One was destroyed during the making of the movie, one bought by a collector and the third one was retained by Land Rover as part of its heritage collection.

Land Rover Range Rover Sport

By JIM MACPHERSON

November 25, 2009

Remember the articles published in do-it-yourself magazines a generation ago that described the car of the future? It would take you around town, drive itself on special highways while you read the newspaper and, when the need arose, turn into an airplane in minutes with just a few cotter pins and a Phillips screwdriver.

Land Rover Range Rover SportThe concept was appealing, but the execution has lagged.

While we wait for the vehicle that does it all, we should acknowledge that Land Rover has come close to fulfilling the concept with the Range Rover Sport. It goes off-road with the competence of a Land Rover, yet it also coddles occupants as if it were a luxury car. Thanks to its rakish good looks and sumptuous interior, it also exudes class. Granted, it won't fly, but the thrust from the new 5.0-liter V-8 may make you think that air travel is overrated.

From afar, the 2010 Range Rover Sport looks like it might be carried over with a few changes from 2009. Land Rover, however, has made enough improvements and styling updates to justify a "nearly new" label.

Defender 90 is heading back down under

After a sort absence from the Australian dealers' showrooms the Defender 90 is heading back down under.

Costing around AU$45,000 (£25,000) the new Puma engined defender will be just AU$4,000 less than a similar spec 110.

However with just 4 years until the new 'Icon' Defender is released Aussie buyers won't have long to get one.

Land Rover sell just 25,000 Defenders worldwide.

The Defender 90 was removed from the Australian fleet in 2006 following a steady decline in sales. Not really surprising when a a 90 cost MORE than a 110. But 2010 will see it back on the list.

GM executive tipped to head Jaguar Land Rover

GM executive tipped to head Jaguar Land Rover

Monday, 9th November 2009

MARK SHAPLAND
Carl Peter Forster, the European chief of General Motors, has been tipped as the next head of Jaguar Land Rover.

Forster was unhappy about GM’s decision not to sell European subsidiary Vauxhall Opel to Canada’s Magna International and is expected to join Jaguar Land Rover within the next few months. The London born GM chief has spent five years at the US car giant and was previously head of production at MG Rover during its ownership by BMW in the 1990s.

Jaguar Land Rover, which employs 15,000 people, was bought by Tata Motors from Ford for £1.3bn last year.

Forster is expected to be succeeded at GM by Nick Reilly, currently head of international operations. Reilly faces a tough challenge in the year ahead with carmakers set to report heavy losses in sales.
