September Fallout Event: September 25th

Each year Scarlet and Dom from Land Rover Salvage host their barbecue and trail ride called the Guy Fawkes Day. This year they have moved the event from late October to late September, when the weather and schedules are a bit more favourable.

Here is the notice, and vital details:

Dominic & Scarlett Perodeau of Land Rover Salvage, Inc. are having their annual event on September 25, 2010 called "The September Fallout", which was previously named "Guy Fawkes which was primarily held the first week in November. Due to the weather conditions for that time of year, they have changed the event to " The September Fallout" hoping for better weather conditions. and a better club turnout. The event will be start at 11:00 am and departing at 1:00 pm for off roading run to Lingham Lake and return for 6pm.

A BBQ Dinner will be catered by Scarlett and dinner will be at 7:00 pm along with a Bonfire & fireworks and overnight camping. For overnight campers, you can show up earlier Saturday to set up camp, or even show up Friday night to get a head start.

Camping is available on site and will be a PortaJohn and some limited power for site lighting

Sunday Tim Hortons coffee & breakfast provided and by group decision an explore of the local trails network.

JAGUAR Land Rover (JLR) has promised an expanded range and new environmental technologies in a “greener and sustainable” business plan to see the struggling company through the market recovery and position it “to grow and prosper in the future”.

In an announcement in the UK coinciding with confirmation that Land Rover would build its smallest and most efficient Range Rover – the LRX – JLR said it aimed to “increase its global competitiveness significantly, drive growth and sustained profitability, and respond to the challenges of climate change”.

New Malayan showroom for Jaguar, Land Rover

MALAYAN Motors has spent more than $3 million to convert part of its Leng Kee Road property for joint representation of the Jaguar and Land Rover brands.

The new showroom will be the first in Asia to house the two British marques together according to full corporate identity standards.

Malayan Motors has been the distributor for Jaguar here since 1970, while Sime Darby held Land Rover from the mid-1980s.

Because Tata prefers both brands to be handled by one representative, Land Rover moved over to Malayan Motors at the start of this month.

Malayan Motors is part of the mainboard-listed Wearnes Group and also holds the Bentley franchise.

RANGE ROVER WINS WINTER VEHICLE AWARD

MAHWAH, N.J., March 9, 2010 -Land Rover North America has been awarded, by members of the New England Motor Press Association (NEMPA), a Winter Vehicle Award in the Best in Class-Premium Sport Utility Vehicle/Crossover segment for the 2010 Range Rover.

NEMPA members, comprised of automotive writers and talk show hosts throughout all six New England states, assembled at the annual Winter Vehicle Voting Day where they spent the day driving all-wheel-drive vehicles. Journalists evaluated vehicles on how they fit the needs of drivers during the long New England winters.

"New England's automotive media test new vehicles in a daunting combination of fast driving roads, challenging weather conditions and off-road trails," said Stuart Schorr, Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, Jaguar Land Rover North America. When Land Rover’s handsome Range Rover Sport bowed for the 2006 model year, it raised eyebrows among aficionados of the venerable British marque. This new model certainly looked a lot like its celebrated big brother, the Range Rover, but cut a decidedly trimmer figure, and although it was mechanically derived from the square-jawed LR3, it rolled onto Land Rover showrooms with an almost scandalously dashing mien. As the faithful quickly discovered, this seemingly enigmatic addition to the Land Rover family was, in fact, a triple threat par excellence: as sumptuous as a luxury sedan, as swift and agile as a sports car, and as talented off the pavement as, well, a Land Rover.

Range Rovers have always been square with sharp corners; and though they are great when sloughing off road, they are inclined to laziness and lurching when hauling horse trailers on dry land. So forgive our judges for prejudging the Autobiography as just another contrived special edition intended to conceal the same old four-wheeler. For once they saw it and drove it, prejudice became praise. Drivers admired the technologies aimed at keeping the vehicle upright, straight, level, and on an undulating keel despite unnerving, uneven conditions. Highest marks went to the new 5-liter, 510 hp supercharged engine that transforms this SUV into a sports car. —Paul Dean

JLR win 1st and 5th places in 2009 Sales Satisfaction Survey

Jaguar is the highest scoring brand in the study for the second consecutive year, and the recipient of the inaugural Luxury brand award. Land Rover is ranked fifth among luxury brands in the study.

The study is a comprehensive analysis of the new-vehicle purchase experience and is based on responses from over 48,000 owners and lessees of new vehicles registered in May and June of 2009. Overall customer satisfaction is measured based on five factors: dealership facility; salesperson; paperwork/finance process; delivery process; and vehicle price.

Land Rover’s smallest Defender, the short-wheelbase 90, will return early next year.

Land Rover’s nuggety ‘‘90’’, the short-wheelbase version of the rugged Defender off-roader, will go back on sale in Australia early next year.

The Defender 90 fell out of showrooms in mid-2006 after sales slipped into a steady decline. When an updated version of the iconic off-roader was released in 2007, only the long-wheelbase 110 station wagon, crew cab and ute, and 130 crew cab and ute (the numbers refer to the length of the wheelbase in inches) were available.

But now the Degender 90, which features shorter overhangs front and rear (for steeper entry and departure angles) than the longer versions that make it a lot more versatile in the bush, will rejoin the line-up.

Land Rover Defender 90

The 90 will get the same six-speed manual gearbox as the longer wheelbase versions, replacing the five-speeder used in the previous generation. It will also get the same 2.4-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder generating a modest 90kW of power as the old version, although this time around it will produce 360Nm of peak torque instead of the old version’s 300Nm.

Fuel economy for the shorter version is expected to come in at about 10.0 litres per 100 kilometres, about 1.0L/100km less than the bigger models.

Land Rover Australia spokesman Guido Schenken said the smaller Defender did not go on sale when the longer versions were updated in 2007 because the 90 would have cost more than the longer-wheelbase 110.

‘‘[Bringing back the 90] was always on the plan. With the newer engine and air-conditioning it’s a lot more of a viable product,’’ Schenken said.

‘‘The previous one was pretty expensive to make, but the car is now made in the UK rather than South Africa and we can do it cheaper.’’

The Defender 90 is already on sale for $44,990 plus on-road and dealer costs, compared with $48,990 plus on-road and dealer costs for the 110 station wagon, although the first deliveries arrive next year. Just before it fell out of Australian showrooms, the Defender 90 was priced from $39,950.

The new one still won’t get stability control, but will come with anti-lock brakes that can also stop wheels with limited traction from spinning, anti-stall engine management, and a special function that will allow the driver to start the Defender in first gear in low range — meaning the driver doesn’t necessarily need to be seated in the vehicle to drive it.

Standard features are expected to include single-CD audio, air conditioning, rubber floor mats, electric front windows, power steering, and four cloth seats including two full-sized rear seats.

Land Rover has said that the Defender’s future is certain until about 2012-13, after which tough European emissions and safety laws will force the British car maker to either completely redesign the vehicle, limit sales to markets outside Europe, or scrap it altogether.

‘‘At the moment we sell about 25,000 [Defenders] worldwide, and for it to be viable to build an all-new Defender we would have to sell 50,000 units worldwide a year,’’ Schenken said.

Land Rover has used this week’s 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show for the U.S. debut of its latest 2010 Range Rover Sport Autobiography Limited Edition SUV, which is set to go on sale at the end of the year.

Joining the rest of the 2010 Range Rover Sport family, the striking new Autobiography package is available with the common 510 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque supercharged and direct-injected 5.0-liter V-8, plus a range of luxury items.
